A Nigerian Lady, Aluko Yetunde Ifeoluwa has called on the public to save her from the extremists and Jihadists who are after her life over an allegation of Blasphemy against Prophet Mohammed.
While confidently speaking with Journalists, Ifeoluwa who is on the run narrated her story while living with in Abuja.
I lived with my friend Apata Esther Olamide with a neighbour called Aunty Usman Zainab and we shared the same compound but different apartment. We were co-tenants and always had series of discussions about the state of the nation , politics, economy, tourism, and entertainment. We argued, gave suggestions, and advised each other, and we all live happily. Ifeoluwa said
On this fateful day, we are in our room with Aunty Zainab discussing as usual, and she said there is a family who is planning a party and the money budgeted for drinks is too much but she condemned it and said that is why most Muslims don’t drink, and I responded that some Muslim faithful drink too and they like celebrating , even their Prophet Mohammed would join them to celebrate. I noticed Aunty Zainab’s negative reaction as she fumed to what I said and she said that is blasphemy and the argument started and she got angry. Ifeoluwa narrated.
According to Ifeoluwa, she said that the argument heated up and Aunty Zainab said Blasphemy attracts a death penalty that she will go and inform the jihadist and both of them will be made to face prosecution. At that point , I was furious and told Esther, that how can a little argument lead to prosecution? Aunty Zainab reminded us of a particular incident that happened when angry mob in the northern Nigerian city of Sokoto killed a Muslim man for alleged blasphemy against the Prophet Mohammed. She was shouting and left our room angrily.
One of our co-tenants intervened and advised us to leave the compound immediately, but we should disguise and hang around to see if she went to report. We pick some of our clothes and leave the door unlocked. To our surprise she came back with a team of Islamic Organisation operatives, they burst our apartment, bring our belongings and set them on fire while speaking some Islamic verses while they asked her to recorded it and send it to us and also threating to kill me and Esther if caught. So we decided to leave the town while I travel to Ibadan Oyo State, that night.
I was so scared when a friend called and told me that the Islamic organisation has announced my name in their mosque and also informed other members across the board about the incident and they should be on the lookout in if I was found anywhere. I remembered the gruesome lynching of a Christian woman who was stoned to death in Sokoto on similar accusations. Also a Christian student at Shehu Shagari College who was stoned to death and her body burnt by a mob of students after she made a post on social media they deemed insulted the Prophet. She said
I received all kinds of threats via phone calls, texts and WhatsApp messages, and it created more fear in me that I needed more help. So I throw away my phone to the river and get another one to contact few people. I cried to some media outlets and some journalists, along some human rights organisations, decided to assist after listening to my ordeal, conduct a thorough investigation, and tell me to travel abroad for a new beginning. She concluded.
