Lagelu Local Government hosts one-day dialogue on emerging economic and security challenges (Photos)

The Executive Chairman of Lagelu local government, Hon. Mudashiru Kamorudeen has organized an Economic and Security Stakeholders Dialogue at the council secretariat in Iyana-Offa.

This dialogue is designed to engender not just discussions but thought-provoking contributions and recommendations capable of addressing and ameliorating the state of public safety, security, and social development and how it affects the economy in the local government.

The historic event was attended by all stakeholders in the local government, including security experts, business owners and economic experts, security agencies’, traditional rulers, political and religious leaders, administrative staff and political heads of the local government, and other eminent members of society.

In his address, the council boss, Hon. Kamorudeen Mudashiru, rolled out the action plan, which includes:  bye-laws promulgated by the legislative council on internally generated revenue (IGR); adequate security and establishment of a local security network; public safety; infrastructure improvements and mandated surveillance (CCTV) cameras in business and economic areas; emergency response systems; disaster preparedness; health and safety regulations: economic growth; Grants and support for local businesses and startups; infrastructure development; skills development and training.

The essence of the dialogue is to ensure that the Lagelu local government not only addresses immediate concerns but also lays the foundation for regulations on sustainable development by enhancing local security, ensuring public safety, advancing social development, and fostering economic growth.

The chairman introduced the local security network, which will be under an operational scheme termed “Lagelu Secure” and work closely with established state and Federal security agencies with the aim of enhancing the local security framework and ensuring better safety measures for all.

In the same vein, a security expert, Dr. Micheal Adeniyi said it is important that all security guards in the local government and LCDAs be registered, get familiarised with each other, and have periodic meetings with the other agencies.

He stressed further on training and certification of the security guards and also the need for health and accident insurance for the security guards in the local government while applauding the council chairman on this giant strides.

In another development, an economic expert who double as a lecturer at Akungba Akoko University, Dr Wahaab Yusuff said there should be a data base for business owners in the local government, which will automatically increase the IGR, He stressed further on the need for the dividends democracy to be given to the business owners by supporting them with grants/loans.

In attendance are Vice-Chairman and Lagelu North political head, Hon. Sadiq Raji,  Administrative Head of LG & LCDAs, Directors, Traditional rulers, Head of security agencies, Business owners and many others.
