Though I am still reeling from the sudden death of my friend, Olumesah Bamidele Alexandra, We met at Federal College of Education (Special) Oyo, School of Sciences, to be precise, in the laboratory when he was explaining a particular topic in Chemistry. I came from a social science background and never attempted Physics or Chemistry before, but Biology is one of my favorite subjects. We’ve been friends since the first day I joined them in the laboratory including Oyelewo Oyelere, Adeola Makanjoula, Late Tanwa, Lauretta, and some other friends. I’ll never forget how he sat across me to teach me the basis of physics and chemistry. It was difficult to learn, but he made sure I was able to catch up day and night.
He was so worried at a point that he needed to go back to Ibadan and get me some of his SS1-3 notebooks and textbooks, and he eventually did. We proceeded to back to Pavilion and met another group of people where we met some other friends and we became friends. We transited from prelim to our first year and this solidify the friendship to brotherhood. I met Okunade Adedayo (Obey), Adetosho Adejoke, Ogunase Oluwaseyi, Yomi Ogunkunle and many others. I had 2 girlfriends and he had none, he said he got someone in Ibadan and he can’t get any other person .. This was strange to me, but I coped and we went to my family house in Oyo for weekends because he stayed in the dormitory.
The dormitory relationship was caucus by caucus, group by group. We make friends from the school’s male hostel to the female hostel to Animal Kingdom, to Jobele Hotel to Hostel ‘D’ and we keep meeting friends like Moni, Ronke Babalola, Yinka Arowosaye, Tope Solaja, Hector Njoku, Kabir Raji, Dare, Fatai & SM Osunsaya, Dapo Awe, Mayowa Akinfenwa, Gboyega Oshifade (PPO) and many others.
As a kind and caring friend, he gave me a test on physics and chemistry in which I scored below average, he never scolded me but told me at least I got some marks. I introduced him to my other friends in Oyo and Ibadan, and he never turned down the chance to meet new people, and travel somewhere new,..The journey started as we traveled to meet the lady in Ibadan and I knew a friend late Kayode Otube. “Mesah” as fondly called, was culled from his surname, OLUMESAH which I launched among other nicknames. His positivity was an inspiration for everyone he met. He was a friend to many, and people respected him so much.
In the journey of friendship and brotherhood, we had challenges and we got each other’s back and that was how our families became family friends right at Iyaganku police station. Ibadan (It’s a life drama). We overcome the challenges and the journey of friendship, and brotherhood continues……
